Entrepreneur, Samuel Kwadwo Fosu, has pledged to invest one million dollars into Kumawood movies.

The philanthropist, has made his pledge on condition that the Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo government passes the film bill.

He said the creative arts council’s role of formulating policies that will support local content should also be effectively enforced to encourage business men to invest in the film industry.

“I have a lot of investors in South Africa and Europe who are ready to invest in Kumawood movies but they are afraid of the losses they may accrue because there are no rules covering the industry. So instead they prefer to invest in Yoruba movies in Nigeria.

“That attracted DSTV to go for Yoruba movies between $10,000 to $15,000 dollars per title whiles Kumawood movies goes for $1,000 dollars per title,” he revealed.

Mr. Fosu said if the right policies are not put in place the movie industry especially Kumawood would continue to struggle although he is of the opinion Kumawood movies have improved over the years, creating jobs for many.

“I am appealing to the Minister of Creative Arts to work hand-in-hand with FIPAG and the Creative Arts Council to bring out policies that will protect the local movies and believe me it will attract foreign investors to move and this would reduce unemployment in Ghana.

“Nigerians learned how to shoot movies from us but now they are far ahead of us because they have support from their government and copy right laws are working there,” Mr. Fosu noted.

Exstep Production has so far produced; “Enyi Me Mma,” “Nsoroma,” “Nya Asem Hwe,” “Ye M’adom,” “ Ewiase Ben Nie” and “Me Hyebre Sesafo.”
